I really debated getting any ‘maternity photos‘ taken for a long while. I think there are people who are so good at marking memories, special occasions and milestones with photos and then those that don’t. I’m fairly certain I fall into the later category. I reluctantly got engagement photos taken and didn’t want professional photos of any part of our wedding week besides the last day. Thankfully, my mom fought me on all those and we had them taken!

Looking back, I’m so thankful I did and it’s the main reason we decided to have these snapped. Granted, I am a bit more used to having photos taken these days with the blog but I always think I won’t do anything with them. I don’t want our house covered in photos of ourselves that have been professionally shot but instead candid photos we can sprinkle around. I’m running into the same dilemma with newborns shots.

Everyone has told me I need to book those soon if I want them but I can’t decide. On top of that, there is then the task of finding someone to do it! If you are in the Chicago area and have any recommendations please let me know.

After such a long battle to get pregnant, I think both Trevor and I were excited to get these photos taken and remember this sweet time. Who knows if we’ll ever be doing this again and we wanted to cherish this time. So much of my pregnancy has been filled with fear and now it really feels like we are able to enjoy it a little. Feeling our sweet boy kick, my belly growing (how does it get bigger every day?!) and talking about our future with him has been nothing short of magical.

I was also over the moon to finally have a reason to wear this maxi dress! I had seen it when it first came out and had my eye on it ever since. Although it was still cold at the time, I knew maxi dresses may be becoming my new best friend and I couldn’t get over this beautiful pattern. It is actually sold as a maxi and/or bridesmaid dress and comes in about a million different prints. You can also wear the dress completely strapless or pull them over your arms like I did, which I loved. Last bonus, it’s so long! It may not be a bonus for everyone but I can rarely find a maxi that I can wear with flats and be the appropriate length let alone heels. For reference, I’m about 5’8 and wore 3′ inch heels with it and it still swept the ground perfectly!

I picked a few of my current favorites below and just grabbed this adorable one for our babymoon, how perfect is the ombré with the tassels?

So, do you often mark your milestones with photos?

The photographer we used for our wedding, http://www.hinojosaphotography.com/, also does newborn sessions. She’s fantastic from an artistic perspective, a pleasure to work with and really focuses on the emotions you’re feeling during the photoshoot.

  2. These photos turned out great! I’ve got to get better at taking photos of personal milestones, looking back I only have photos of my outfits, food, and buildings – haha.

  3. awwww, these are so sweet Shaheen! I’m with you-I never opt for photos, but I do think it’s special to have some really pretty ones like these 🙂

  4. Beautiful photos, Shaheen! We did the engagement/wedding photos, but haven’t had any professional photos since. I’m not sure that we’ll take maternity photos when the time comes for that, but I definitely think photos of your little one are a must!
