Life Lately XVI

Aug 25, 2017

TGIF y’all! We made it through another week and that is an accomplishment. I was at home with Zain all week and that simultaneously makes the time fly by and crawl like a snail. It more so depends on how he’s feeling. Some days I feel like I’m killing the mom game and then the next day I feel like I have no idea what I’m doing and am a total failure. I guess that is probably just the new normal. My brother keeps telling me that when babies are this little they’re like a new person each day and sometimes I think he couldn’t be more correct.

Lately, it has been so fun to see him developing. I feel like he’s so much more aware of his surroundings and us. He smiles all the time and is slowly creeping towards laughing which I am dying waiting for!

I thought I would share a little bit of what we’ve been up to lately. I’m also excited to head to the Chicago Baby Show tomorrow with Trevor and Zain so make sure to follow along for some fun updates and if you still need to grab a ticket check out this post to grab a free one!

Zain’s First Trip To The Zoo

A few weeks ago Trevor had a two days off from work and we decided to take Zain boo to the Lincoln Park Zoo. It was such a treat since he didn’t get much of a paternity leave and fellowship had been taking up so much of his life. I can’t tell you how wonderful it has been since Trevor has started his full time job. He’s able to come home in the evening in time to enjoy bath and bed time with Zain and his weekends are mostly free. If you happen to be in the city, the Lincoln Park Zoo is totally free and such a fun afternoon adventure. Although Zain slept through most of our exploring he did love seeing the tiny penguins swim around and it made me excited to take him when he gets older!

Old Irving Park

Its seems like recently so many of our friends have moved to Old Irving Park. We used to frequent the neighborhood to visit Smoque BBQ (the best BBQ in the city in my opinion) but now spend a lot more time there. I swung by last week to meet my girlfriend Lauren for a playdate and we took our boys (her son Magnus is the cutest!) on a stroll and stopped by their new neighborhood coffee shop, Backlot Coffee. Is it not the cutest? This is their second location and first in the city and I highly reccomend it. The guys were so kind and their iced lavender matcha was to die for. Also, sidenote: thanks to my mom brain I left my credit card in the slot of the machine and my wallet on the counter and left. I didn’t notice till about 3 hours later and thank goodness those sweet men saw it and kept it behind the counter for me!

Missing Louisville

It’s been a few weeks since we came home from Louisville but I still miss it. Trevor and I are both so torn on whether we will ever make the move back but it’s still such a fun and special place for us. I snapped this picture on a walk with my mom and Zain early in the morning and do dream of having space one day!

Obsessed With Matcha

Don’t ask me how or why but I have jumped on the matcha bandwagon. Jess really introduced me to it as David’s Tea (she’s obsessed with that place!) and ever since I tried this iced peach matcha tea I have been sampling it everywhere. If you haven’t tried it I totally reccomend starting with this flavor!

Tee, Shorts, Backpack Diaper Bag

A snap by my mom while we were back in Louisville. I love this boy! I also get a lot of questions about these Madewell denim shorts since I was raving about them on Instagram stories. They are awesome! They have an elastic waistband with a drawstring and are the perfect fit without being too tight. Plus, they are super affordable!

  1. Your little guy is so handsome! I love his dark eyes and all that hair! He’s adorable! I’ve always loved dark eyes I think because mine are so light. Both my husband and I have blue eyes, so I know our little guy will have them too. Looks like you’ve been living and loving that mom life lately with a side of matcha! Have a great weekend, Shaheen!

  2. what a cutie!!! already miss him (and you!)
