Good morning! It’s been a while since we’ve chatted here and that is truly because summer chaos is in full effect. I can’t believe the school year starts in just a couple weeks but I am ready for routine and schedule 😉 I’ve had several questions come through anytime I share my Red Light Mask over on Instagram stories and I know I kept telling everyone I really wanted to use it for a few months before reporting back. 

It’s been about three months since I started using mine and I have to tell you, I’m impressed. I am not a huge beauty tech person and generally avoid buying into them because I worry I won’t continually keep up with devices and it will soon be something that just collects dust. However, I like the CurrentBody mask because it’s light, flexible, easy to store, and easy to wear! Overall, my skin feels brighter and plumper and I truly think it has toned down the redness around my nose. I see immediate results as soon as it comes off but also think it’s helped with my fine lines over time. 

Why this mask?

A lot of the masks I looked into were a hard plastic and didn’t seem the most comfortable or easy to wear while doing other things. It’s made of a patented flexible silicone so you just wrap it around your face and go about your business. It uses a combo of red and near-infrared light to help target signs of aging like fine lines and I think it’s done just that for me. I don’t use botox or really keep up with any in-office beauty treatments so this felt like a wise investment in my opinion. My lines seem to have softened which I’ve noticed most around my mouth and I feel like my age spots have lightened. 

It’s also easy to maintain consistency meaning I haven’t stopped using it. They recommend 3-5 times a week for 10 minutes unlike a few others which list daily use. I truly reach for it several times a week and wear it while I’m cleaning up or doing things around the bathroom or our bedroom. It’s also nice to sometimes just relax in bed with it on while watching a show! It doesn’t bother my eyes personally but it does come with goggles in case that’s a concern for you. 

Another perk I didn’t expect needing is how amazing red light is for discoloration and bruising. If you missed it, I walked into a sign a few weeks ago and broke my tooth and split my lip. The following day Zain accidentally head butted me and fractured my nose so I had a good amount of swelling and bruising. A reader recommended I throw this on and sent photos of how quickly hers healed her black eye – I was shocked. I wore it during the days following and it really did increase my healing. 

I really wish I had a negative to share with you but I personally haven’t found one yet. I just wipe mine down after each use and store it open in my cupboard but if you are short on bathroom space you may need to get creative. I will say, I wish I had opted for the version with the neck component! I just may mine over my neck to help with lines but do wish I could have just knocked them both out at once. 

Another important note for me I should mention is that this mask is FDA approved which gave me confidence in the safety and efficacy of the technology. 

What is light therapy:

LED light therapy is a non-invasive treatment that utilizes different wavelengths of infrared light to help treat various skin issues such as acne, fine lines, and wound healing.  It was actually first developed for clinical use by NASA back in the nineties to help heal astronauts’ skin wounds. LED light therapy has also been found to repair cell damage, kill bacteria & reduce the appearance of fine lines.

When should I use it?

Similar to other face masks, light therapy devices are typically recommended for use after cleansing but before other skin-care steps.
