Even though us Chicagoans may feel like we are the only people missing the spring memo I recently realized that may not be true. That or cold weather follows me wherever I go! Last weekend I headed to LA to enjoy a fun girl’s weekend with Blair and soak up some serious rays. Sadly, it wasn’t nearly as hot as we anticipated (not bikini weather for sure) but it was still the first taste of warm weather I’ve felt.
It cracked me up that I saw people in winter coats and boots walking around because I’m sure to them 60 degrees is cold meanwhile I was wearing dresses and sandals and so happy! On Saturday I decided to throw on this boho blue dress and we headed down to the Los Angeles Flower Market to browse the open market. Looking back I wish we had picked up a few to take home since our flight was cancelled (more on that later) & we could have enjoyed those pretty peonies for a few days. After exploring the market downtown we headed out to Santa Monica for lunch at Mendocino Farms. It was a random find but so adorable and had some delicious sandwiches and curry couscous – so much so that I was stuffed when we left and couldn’t even fathom snagging a doughnut next door. Sigh, I wish I could get one of those right about now.
I know I mentioned I just snagged a few heels for spring last week but I can’t tell you how much I like these. I’m happy chunky heels are back mostly for my own comfort but I love the way they look too. I wore these all afternoon to wander around the city and had no problems – the heels aren’t terribly tall either so if you are on the lookout for some that you can throw on with maxi’s or jeans I would snag these!
Now, onto THIS DRESS. Holy heaven y’all. I was a little scared to purchase it at first because Free People tends to run short on me but I love the way this fits and looks. I went back and forth between the black and blue and I love them both but decided on the blue since I tend to always choose black. I’m happy I did because it looks perfectly casual and fun for any summer day. I have a feeling I will be living in this dress all summer and you would too.
Despite Trevor always referring to my winter & summer hats as ‘those hats’ I love them and was excited to try out this boater hat. Initially, I felt a tad bit like a gondola driver in Venice but I quickly started to love the straight brim and flat top. I wore it over and over again in LA and think it’s the perfect Derby hat for my Kentucky girls!
We had such a great time in LA and I can’t wait to continue sharing our adventures with you guys. Let me know if you have any questions about sizing on the dress (I went true to size but I think you could go up if you wanted a more roomy fit) Don’t forget you can snag these things on the new Zappos app too!
Gimme those shoes NOW!! Love this look on you – and I miss you! We gotta hang soon!!! xoxoxo

I know, right? You need them – they are sooo comfy! I know g chattin is not cutting it. Let’s make drink plans!
I love Free People. I’ve got a couple of their maxi dresses. I wish they’d been around when I was in my teens and early 20s..they have some super cute styles but some of them are too young for me.
Me too! I know that’s why I was so worried about the length at first. I am not young enough to wear short shorts nor was I ever that brave haha.
This is so pretty!! I love how easy this dress is 🙂 It’s a throw on and go kind of thing!
