When we moved into our new place one of the things I was most excited about was purchasing new rugs! Textiles are so easy to move with you and add so much to a room. I searched online for weeks to find everything including neutral shag rugs, Persian rugs and my favorite bold printed rugs! I thought I would share my favorite spot to find the best rugs for a reasonable price and a few things to consider when picking one.
Know your Size: As a general rule, I pick rug size based on room size and how my furniture will be arranged. If a room is large and the furniture is floating I try to cover the floor with my rug and have all legs of the furniture on it. If I have furniture placed against the wall in a room I will have just the front legs on the rug. Most often, if I am setting up a small space I will have a rug that is centered without any furniture on it. The placement can help dictate what role the rug is playing and make things feel complete.
Pick pattern vs neutral: I love both and think they serve different purposes. If a neutral rug seems unappealing to you try a neutral color in a shag or another unusual texture that will bring some character to it. For our new place I chose neutral for our living room, Persian for our bedroom and a fun print for our spare room.
Pick Texture: There are so many textures to rugs it’s overwhelming. I think it’s good to narrow down the feel you want for the particular room. Although you may like the way something looks make sure it’s comfortable too. For example, I love jute rugs but hate the way they feel on my feet. Despite loving the way they look in a room I would never want to walk on it.
Pull the trigger: There are so many rugs to choose from you could drive yourself crazy. Once you have the previous details narrowed down I say go for it! Remember, you can always switch it out in the future.
My go to store for findings the best prints is Urban Outfitters. They are always affordable and have lasted me a lifetime. I rounded up 9 of my favorite ones below and would love to hear your tips when choosing one!
Also, everyone that comes over to our house comments about how comfy & soft our living room rug is. Although it is a soft rug it’s all the rug pad! We snagged the material at Home Depot for under $10. It’s in a giant roll and you can just have them cut it to your specifications and I promise it will make all the difference! Hope your week is off to a great start and your work day is quick!
