Who else is excited to head home for the holidays? As busy and hectic as the holidays can be, it’s my favorite time of the year. Days with no plans, enjoying family time and all the food. As much as I look forward to the holidays, I don’t enjoy the travel quite the same. Depending on where we are headed it’s either a long road trip or a plane ride. Either way, I try to be detailed about my packing so I’m not lugging tons of stuff back and forth for no reason.
Packing a weekender will also help you refrain from overpacking in a big way. I used to lug home a large carry on suitcase, which I know realize is a wee bit overdramatic. I just grabbed this weekender from Sole Society after reading all the amazing reviews. I love the size, it’s not too small for a weekend trip which I oddly feel like lots of ‘weekenders’ are and the handles and shoulder strap are perfect.
When traveling and packing, layers are key. This look is a classic travel outfit for me! I usually wear my most comfortable jeans that have a ton of stretch, a pair of flats that are easy to slip on and off and stripes. Depending on the season, I will throw on a long cardigan or during winter months a solid colored coat I know I can make work with most of what I packed.
Besides your travel look try to break everything down to the basics:
5-6 tees, tanks or turtlenecks: Depending on the season, pack a few basic tops in solid and neutral colors.
2 dresses: Since I often meet up with old friends or family, I usually try to pack a fancy and casual day dress.
2 pairs of jeans: Again, a pair that can be dressed up like a black skinny and a more casual distressed option.
3 pairs of shoes: One of these should be your travel flat. I usually throw in an athletic shoe or sneaker, one pair of flats and a fun pair of heels.
2 Handbags: One casual and one clutch for the evening.
Added accessories: Pack a neutral colored sweater or cardigan, a scarf, and a good pair of sunglasses.
This should cover you for your weekend at home. To be honest, I spend most of the holidays in my silk pajamas with my furry slippers but I guess it’s good to have an options, ha!
