A Plaid Coat Worth The Investment

Coat: Topshop – Unlike most Topshop, I found this coat ran TTS. I ordered a size up and had to return it for a 2 so I would stay true to size. | Turtleneck:  Madewell | Jeans: Levi’s | Shoes: Sam EdelmanSunglasses: Le SpecsLips: Bare MineralsHandbag: Nordstrom

Good morning and happy Wednesday!

Is anyone else beyond excited for Halloween tomorrow? I am mostly excited because this is the first year Zain has caught on and is excited about the trick or treating. We took him to Boo at The Zoo last week and he quickly caught on to the candy train and had an absolute blast. We were in Chicago last year so this will be our first year in our neighborhood and I’m hoping the rain will hold off.

As for today’s post, I’m excited to share this new plaid coat but also why I love each one of these pieces so much. Several of them have been in my closet forever like the turtleneck, jeans and heels and a few are some of my favorite recent buys.

First, let’s chat about this plaid coat. I have a green and navy blue plaid coat that is around 8 years old and finally decided this year was the year to update it. I still like the old coat and it’s held up well but it’s not as oversized or long as I would prefer now. I was thrilled when I found this Topshop coat because I loved the design but was hesitant about how I would feel about the quality. Although it’s under $200, I felt like that was a pretty good investment for one of their coats. I am happy to report that it’s amazing quality and so chic. It’s incredibly soft, super thick and feels much more luxe than it is. I had originally sized up when I ordered it since Topshop usually runs super small but ended up returning it for my normal size 2. The jacket fits more TTS so I would go with your usual size!

I paired it with one of my tissue turtlenecks, some boyfriend jeans and heels for a relaxed dinner look while I was in Chicago. I own these turtlenecks in a million colors and they are a staple in my fall and winter wardrobe. I love the material, fit and how they hold up for years. I order my normal size in them.

The jeans were purchased a while back when I was hunting for a boyfriend jean and saw them on another blogger. I love the price point (under $100) and thought I could get some use out of them during the fall and mild winter in Louisville.

The last piece I wanted to mention is this crocodile bag! I love this shape but don’t want to splurge on a Celiné bag. I’ve actually slowly been selling a lot of my old designer bags just because I don’t find myself reaching for them anymore and thought this was a great alternative. It’s so gorgeous in person and is a great work and weekend bag.

The best part is that everything is available at Nordstrom. As you all know, they are one of my favorite retailers and their easy return policy makes shopping online a breeze. I usually recommend ordering two sizes in something if you aren’t sure since their pieces tend to sell out so quickly (especially Topshop!) and just returning what doesn’t work.

All in all, this is one of my favorite fall looks and I hope you guys feel the same. Let me know if you have any questions on material or sizing and Happy Halloween!
