Good morning friends!
Hope you are all having a great week so far and enjoying more sunshine than we are here in Louisville. It’s been so humid and raining on and off and I am itching to get out on a short walk with Zahra soon but am waiting for a cooler morning.
Today’s post is a quick one but I wanted to pop on to share my mom’s recipe for this Turmeric milk that she has been making me every evening since I got so many questions about it over on Instagram.
It’s simple, easy to make and always feels like the perfect way to end my evening 🙂 Aside from the relatively recent surge of Turmeric based drinks and foods here in the US; it’s always been a staple in Indian cooking and culture so this drink isn’t something new my mom came across.
There has been some research on it’s health benefits and whether or not it’s helpful. I wouldn’t use it to treat disease or anything that extreme but do believe it has properties that improve digestion, brighten our skin and serves as an antioxidant.
So, here is a peek at the easy recipe and let me know if you have any questions!
Ingredients:
1 oz Water
Small piece of a Cinnamon Stick
1/4 tsp Turmeric
The seeds of 1 Cardamom pod or a pinch of Cardamom Powder
1 tsp Honey (I use local to help with allergies)
Optional: a pinch of freshly ground black pepper
Directions:
Combine water, turmeric, cinnamon, and cardamom in pot. Boil water on high heat until liquid is 1/3 of the original amount.
Add 6 oz 2% milk and honey to pot and boil on low for a minute.
Add fresh black pepper as desired.
Hope you enjoy and tag me on Instagram if you make it so I can show my mom 🙂
