Last week, I jumped in the car with a girlfriend & headed around the West Loop to run errands, grab coffee & get some shooting done. It sounds strange to say but it has been quite a long time since a spent a day in a car with a girlfriend just getting things done.
These days I avoid being in a car at all costs – the Chicago traffic, the lack of parking and gas prices are just a few of the reasons why we always use public transportation outside of our office commutes. While wandering around the city I couldn’t help but think of the good ol’ high school days of cruising around with your girlfriends jamming to the best mix CD’s you had compiled.
Our school was very serious about field hockey and it was a tradition to blast our mix tapes as we caravan-ed to games in cars covered with car paint scrolling ‘Go Amazons’ and other crazy things. Do kids even still do these things? Hah.
After getting home from the West Loop I decided to search my closet for my ‘high school box’ Most of my memories are stored in my childhood bedroom in Kentucky but I have a box with me that has a few photos from high school & college (all taken on disposable winding cameras obviously) and mix CD’s. It took me a while to figure out how I could even play the CD which is sad but I can’t tell you how amazing the new few hours were!
I urge you guys to pull out your mix tapes and blast those tunes every so often. It was so fun to relive some of those memories and just jam to long lost music while making dinner. It was the best cap to an amazing day. Long live Easy E!
It’s crazy how music can instantly transport you back to a certain time/place in your life. Oddly enough, I was just telling Pete over the weekend about how there are a few songs that will always remind me of moving to Chicago.
I have a younger brother and sister who are both in high school and I’m constantly asking what they do for fun (worried older sister over here) and apparently it’s still cool to joy ride around and listen to music. Who knew? 🙂 Have a great Tuesday!

Hahaha isn’t it funny that it’s pretty challenging to even play CDs these days?! Loveeee this look, Shaheen! You are the cutest!! I can’t wait for fall.
Right? I realized both my laptop and computer don’t have drives! Thank you!

I know, right? It was the best! Thanks Sarah!
Hahah! Mixed tapes, hilarious! I don’t have any of mine anymore, but sometimes we listen to Rob’s, brings back good (sometimes weird) memories!
Hahaha, you should have kept those!
