Our first Thanksgiving in our new home

Since the holidays are right around the corner and we are already at my in laws celebrating I thought today would be the perfect time to share how we celebrate! Oddly enough, this is one of the most frequent questions I get asked around this time of year and I think it is so interesting to hear how you all split them too.
Now that we are married and have Zain we’ve tried to get a system going and it’s actually made the holidays much less stressful. We decided to split Thanksgiving and Christmas between families and since our parent’s don’t live in the same city we never try to fit both in for a single holiday. That way we feel like we are spending as much time as we can with them instead of rushing from place to place.
We will usually spend Thanksgiving with my family and Christmas with Trevor’s. It works out fairly well because my brother and sister in law usually do the same thing (so our family can always count on being together) for Thanksgiving! We have thought about alternating but honestly it’s worked for us this far so we have decided to keep it simple.
However, this year was a little different. Not only do we now have Zain biut we also live closer to both our parents. So we decided to invite both parents to each holiday this year! Trevor’s parent’s were visiting his twin brother and his family this Thanksgiving so they didn’t make it but we’ll do the same next year and just keep it casual. No harm is anyone can’t make it and we will still stick to my parent’s on Thanksgiving and his for Christmas.
We are celebrating with my in laws currently because Trevor works Christmas Eve so this was our only time to sneak away. I think I’ve shared this before but both his brothers had babies within weeks of Zain so it’s just nice to get the kids together. I think doing whatever works for your family is always the right answer and this is currently ours!
How do you all decide how to split holidays?
