Getting sleep with our newborn is a luxury around here. After coming home completely sleep deprived from the hospital I remember showering and thinking ‘I wonder when my life is going back to normal’ Well, I soon realized that wasn’t happening and being sleep deprived was my new normal. As someone who always treasured their sleep and made sure I got enough of it, it was a shock to me how normal functioning with very little sleep would soon become. Since we weren’t getting a ton of sleep and I was spending a lot of time sitting up in bed nursing throughout the night we decided we needed to upgrade our sleep situation. I decided to make a few changes and it has certainly made falling and staying asleep much more enjoyable.
Declutter Your Bedside Tables:
I know this may sound silly but I used to pile things on our bedside tables. Books, chargers, candles, iPad’s and everything in between. It made the space feel overwhelming and I decided to get rid of remove anything we weren’t using. I actually did this all over our place including our closets and cabinets and it has made me feel so much lighter.
Upgrade Your Mattress:
Maybe our smartest decision, we decided to get the new Serta iComfort Temp Touch™ Mattress sold exclusively at Mattress Firm. It’s a memory foam mattress with gel memory foam that has done wonders for my back. Carrying a baby, car seat and sitting up to nurse has done a number on my posture and this bed seriously makes me feel like a new person. The most exciting feature for Trevor and me is the TempActiv™ technology. It helps you find your perfect sleeping temperature and for a couple who is never the same temperature, it has been a lifesaver! It helps dissipate heat away from your body while you sleep and find the perfect temperature for your body. It’s the best memory foam mattress we’ve tried and is at a super affordable price point.
Wind Down:
As tired as I am, it’s hard to wind down at the end of the day. I’m usually wound up from trying to put Zain to sleep, watching the monitor or worrying about some other task on my to do list. I decided to keep a calming candle on my bedside table and started using a pillow spray. As much as I didn’t think those things would help, it’s worked wonders. It feels like the tiniest bit of indulgence in a somewhat chaotic day!
What do you guys do to unwind and get a better night’s sleep? If you have any questions about the mattress feel free to message me, we can’t say enough good things about it!
Great tips for a good night’s sleep! We bought a new mattress at the beginning of the year, and I’m so glad we did! It’s changed the way we both sleep, and it’s especially been great now that I’m pregnant. The right mattress makes a world of difference!
Oh such a good idea with your little one on the way! It has been a lifesaver 🙂
Having enough sleep is important for a healthy body as well as mind. Upgrading your mattress can help you reduce stress, allergies and dust mites.
