Fall mornings and afternoons may be my favorite time of the year. I know I’ve been talking about the new season quite a bit, but it seems to last such a short time here in Chicago and makes me so happy! The thought of warming up on our patio with a Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte (that I can now easily make at home thanks to my trip to Target!) and a good book in the morning before getting our day started makes me smile. For some reason,  running errands and exploring the city in the cool fresh air is much less tedious!

To get ready for fall I really started to think about basics and what I needed for the new season. I stopped by Target last week to pick a few new pieces to build up my wardrobe and rounded up some staples I think will go a long way for you too! Target is a great spot to stock up on all the essentials. From our cutting board and mug to my new fall clothes, it’s easy to grab everything in one place!

The key to a capsule wardrobe is versatile but classic pieces, these should always be able to be swapped out with one another to create fresh and new looks.

When starting to narrow down your pieces make sure to include a light coat! This green anorak is my personal favorite and always pairs well with a stripe tee. I also like to include a fun top like this rust colored mock neck silk top. The color is such a pretty jewel tone, will work well with sweaters or jackets and any denim color. 

As far as pants, I always like to have a boyfriend and skinny jean on hand. Distressed is my favorite fade but choose whatever you will use most often. The great thing about these two cuts is they can be dressed up or down. Pairing a boyfriend jeans with a silk top and heels is just as chic as a tighter fit jean. Same can be said for a skinny jean with casual sneakers and a cotton tee.

For footwear, I love having a heel and casual white sneaker on hand! This season, block heels are huge and I am loving the velvet trend. These heels combined both trends beautifully and the dark grey color makes them so versatile!

With fewer pieces in your closet I think it allows you to save money, time and really utilize what you have!

Last weekend Trevor & I did all those things that I mentioned earlier since it cooled down a little bit. This Starbucks pumpkin Spice Scone went perfectly with my PSL I was able to make at home. I had never used these VIA packets before but found them on the shelf at Target and let me tell you, they are amazing! I grabbed them in the coffee aisle at Target during our normal weekend grocery trip and all you need to do is heat up water and add it to the mix. So tasty and so easy!

After taking our morning slow, we headed downtown to swing by the MCA. If you haven’t been, you must! It’s one of Chicago’s best museums and we hadn’t been in far too long. Since the weather had cooled down a bit we snagged our first warm Starbucks drink. Does anyone else get excited when that happens?
