Have you noticed how hate seems to be rampant on the internet? I see it everywhere.
I have often wondered if people think the mean things they say will go unnoticed, or maybe that the person on the other end isn’t reading their comments. It seems mind blowing to me that people would take time out of their day to type hateful messages, but it happens all too often.
I tell my husband daily that I’m glad social media didn’t exist when I was growing up. I think the awkward school days with instant messenger and pagers was enough to spin me into anxiety. I don’t know how I would have handled the constant interaction that exists now.
Even as a grown woman in her early 30’s, I have to admit people’s comments online do cross my mind. I understand I am putting myself out there, but it doesn’t mean it doesn’t sting. The first time my photo was shared by a large account online the comments came flooding in. Thousands of nice words filled the comment section but also several about my skin, nose, outfit, etc. It was as though people thought I wasn’t a real person and would never read them.
After that first time, I decided to never do that again.
Luckily, most things are easy to brush off. I am also an adult who is confident in my skin and body. Handling that type of criticism as an adolescent seems unimaginable.
That’s why I’m so proud to be partnering with Dove to encourage more positivity on the internet. 52% of girls think seeing negativity on the internet affects their self confidence and Dove is making strides to change that. Each of us can make social media a more positive environment for girls beauty and body confidence.
This #SpeakBeautiful bracelet is available at Target when you purchase any 3 Dove items and is the best reminder to change the conversation. Our words have so much power and we should start using them!
Each time I have glanced down at my wrist I have been reminded to try a little harder to be part of the solution. Stop by your local Target to get yours and join the movement. I am so happy Dove is embracing young women and girls to help shape their future in such a positive way!

Thanks Jenn, me too! Happy Monday to you too!
I couldn’t agree more!! It really is hard to let the mean comments roll off your back and they are so unnecessary. I really do fear for my future children! You look absolutely stunning in this dress!

Thank you, it was an early summer purchase but the color works great for fall!
I love this. I always ask myself why people write horrible things in the comment sections all over the internet. People have great courage behind the anonymity of a computer. It often reminds me of that quote: ‘Before you speak ask yourself, is it kind, is it true, is it necessary, does it improve upon the silence?’
I am in love with this maxi. You look absolutely beautiful!

Isnβt That Charming.
Thanks Em! Hope you are having a wonderful week!
I rarely read the comments but recently saw some on an Amy Schumer Instagram post and was shocked. I think it is such a cowardly way to behave and yes, just downright mean. Great campaign!
Right? It’s bizarre people take time to say those things. Thanks for stopping by JR!
