A Family Recipe & Thoughts On The Our Place Always Pan

Oct 30, 2020

Good morning and TGIF!

Okay, we all know I am obsessed with my Our Place The Always Pan and am thrilled to be partnering with them today. I purchased the pan on my own a few months ago and have been so impressed ever since. It’s currently the only pan I keep on the stove and haven’t found much need for anything else.

A few things that originally caught my eye:

  • It’s Non Toxic. The coating is free of Teflon, PFAS, PFOAS, PTFEs, lead, cadmium and toxic metals.
  • It doesn’t stick. I’ve searched for Non Toxic pans before and even tested a few out but could never make the switch because everything stuck to them! I watched videos of people cleaning the Our Place pan and was sold.
  • The company cares about the world! They use compostable packaging with zero single use plastics.
  • The Co Founder, Shiza Shahid is a woman of color who is also a Human Rights activist and stands behind the company donating a portion of their profits to partners in their community.

A few additional things I’ve found to love since owning it for a while is that the depth of the pan is really wonderful. I can use it for anything from pancakes to curry without a hassle. The spoon rest is also so convenient for someone like me who always rests her wooden spoon on the side of a pan and watched it fall.

I also want to answer a few questions you all sent in about the pan:

How do you clean it?

I use the sponge that came with the pan and just a touch of soap and water. A lot of times, I can also just wipe it off in between dishes. It really is so easy to clean!

It is dishwasher safe?

The pan is not dishwasher safe and can not go in the oven! The plates and cups are dishwasher safe but I’ve been hand washing those as well.

What do you think of the plates and glasses?

Love them so far and they are especially great is you have limited shelf space. Everything is stackable and the glasses remind me so much of my Dadima’s in India so I had to get them in green.

I wouldn’t say the plates are kid friendly but they are stunning. We have been using them for our at home date nights in the dining room and they would be perfect for dinner parties whenever we have those again!

Today I’m also excited to share one of my favorite childhood dishes that I cook for my family all the time! I’m sure you all know this by now but Trevor and Zain are huge fans of Indian food so we eat it almost every other day. It helps that my mom is an amazing cook and loves to come over and help me. I told Trevor the other day that Zain calls any tortilla a chapati so we did something right 😉

Eggs pallya just makes me feel at home and is such an easy dish to throw together. I have great memories of eating it on weekend mornings while my mom rolled chapatis. I’m unfortunately not making my own chapatis but always have some frozen options on hand from the Indian store that taste almost identical.

It’s a pretty simple prep and you only need a few ingredients. I have not been able to find green chilis outside of the Indian store but you may be able to! I am usually at Patel Brother’s every other week so grab them there.

Egg Pallya Recipe

Ingredients:

12 Eggs

2 Yellow Onions, Diced

1 Bunch Cilantro, ends removed and chopped

10 Green Chilis, Diced

1 1/2 Tsp Salt

1 Tsp Canola Oil

Directions:

Heat oil in pan on medium heat

Once warm, add onion and chilis and cook till softened and golden brown. About 5 or 6 minutes.

Add one handful of chopped cilantro, salt and eggs.

Break eggs and continue to stir fairly often until they begin to cook. I prefer a softer egg consistency so remember to stir frequently and remove from heat when done!

Serve immediately with chapati and orange marmalade or any jam you prefer!

I hope you all try this at home and if you have any questions about the recipe or the Our Place products, just let me know!
