How was everyone’s weekend?

My mom had been in town last week since she stayed back after the family wedding we had all attended and flew out early Saturday morning. It was such a blessing to have her here with us during the week because if you hadn’t seen on Instagram I somehow contracted the plague. I was totally out of commission and have no idea how I would have made it through without her. Trevor then caught a cold mid week and it felt like our house was falling apart. It was also nice to have someone close to Zain who wasn’t sick since we were so paranoid and desperately don’t want to pass it along to him.

After dropping her off at the airport Saturday, Zain and I headed to Beatrix in the West Loop (one of our faves) for lunch with my girlfriends Yvonne and Anar. It was the first time I had him in the high chair so he could partake in the lunch eating. Going out to eat with a child is a whole new level and I quickly learned all the extra things I need to have stored in my diaper bag! He did great and really enjoys almost anything I give him to eat which is so nice.

After lunch we headed home and waited for Trevor to get back from work (he was on call all weekend, sad!) and spent some quality time together. I had to head out to my girl’s dinner later that night and our white elephant gift exchange which was amazing! I had eaten brunch at Cafe Robey before but never dinner and was really impressed. We always order almost everything on the menu and nothing disappointed.

It then occurred to me on Sunday that we leave next week for Christmas and I still had shopping to do! So, Zain and I braved the crowds and shopped around a little bit to pick up a few last minute gifts.

As for today’s topic, I’m dying to know what you guys are reading. Before Zain, I read all the time. Anyone else? I always had a new book on my bedside table and it was a ritual to read and disconnect from electronics before I went to bed. I always thought it was a great way to relax and unwind at the end of the day and I genuinely love reading.

Once you have a newborn, you can barely keep your eyes open so reading seems to fall to the wayside pretty quickly. Now that Zain is 6 months old, sleeping and napping well and I feel a little more put together I am dying to get some new books on my night stand. I figured who better to ask than you guys! What have you been reading or are reading now? Probably anything within the last year would be new to me so feel free to share any and everything!

Do you guys enjoy reading at night? The only downside for me is that it relaxes me so much I usually fall asleep even though I’m fighting to get to the next page.

  1. Cute cozy outfit- love the camisole and those leggings. Great textures going on in this look! I used to read so much, but I feel like my kindle is collecting dust this year. I read so many pregnancy books this summer. Right now I have Bringing Up Bebe on my coffee table. Haven’t made it past the first few pages yet- ha! Turns out I have less time for reading with a newbie at home. 🙂

A few that I’ve enjoyed recently (all pretty different in terms of style, topic, etc.): A Gentleman in Moscow, Killers of the Flower Moon, The Bear & The Nightingale, American Gods, A Man Called Ove!
